Antiparos

The Cycladic Hidden Gem That Feels Like a Dream

It’s a warm July morning when, leaving behind the cosmopolitan vibe of Mykonos, we hop on the small ferry bound for Antiparos.

The main town (Chora) welcomes us with its whitewashed alleyways draped in bougainvillea and cafés that smell of freshly brewed coffee and home-cooked meals. We sit under the plane trees in the central square, watching the island’s slow-paced life unfold like a quiet ritual. A local fisherman, smiling with effortless warmth, points out his favorite beaches on a paper map.
“Don’t miss Sifneikos,” he says, “and head to Soros early—before the crowds.”

We stroll toward the harbor and midway stop at Yam for a delicious breakfast of fresh eggs and orange juice, fueling up for the day’s adventure.

Antiparos is a place that invites you to lose yourself in simplicity and rediscover what truly matters. Its beaches, with crystal-clear waters and peaceful stretches of sand, feel like something out of an old Greek film. On the southern end of the island, the famous cave leaves us speechless—an underground treasure filled with ancient stalactites and stalagmites whispering silent stories through the centuries. The energy here feels mystical, as if the land itself is asking you to pause, listen, and just be.

Each day becomes a small adventure. We hike along trails leading to secluded coves, swim in the clear waters of Agios Georgios, nap in the shade of the rocks at little Soros—a local secret—and discover Faneromeni, a beach untouched by time. Its sea shimmers in shades of turquoise and green that seem to shift with every glance.

For those seeking full-on relaxation, Beach House is the perfect retreat. Think chill music, soft sunbeds just steps from the water, and friendly service that makes you feel instantly at ease. It’s the kind of comfort you never want to leave.

Of course, after a swim comes food. Traditional meatballs, crispy fries, and a cold beer at Perigiali, just a few steps from Panagia beach. We return here often, for a lazy midday siesta under the tamarisk trees, with a salty breeze brushing against our skin and the sun disappearing behind the branches.

Time slows down on Antiparos—sun-soaked days, salt-kissed skin, and genuine smiles far from the rush of city life.

And when the sun sets, the island transforms again. Not with loud parties or neon signs, but with a quiet celebration of life. The atmosphere becomes warmer, more intimate. Tavernas and courtyard restaurants come alive, serving local flavors, fresh fish, Parian wine, and music that stirs the soul—from traditional island tunes to gentle, poetic melodies.

We dine on seafood at Pantelis, savor creative local dishes at Elia, and after dinner, we wander through the softly lit alleyways, enjoying the cool evening air before ending the night at one of the island’s laid-back cocktail bars. Doors, one of the oldest bars, charms us with nostalgic tunes and a retro vibe. Bardot, with its unique personality, draws us in for a more intimate, almost jazzy experience—exceptional drinks in a refined indoor setting, or in the hidden back garden where flavors and ambiance truly transport you.

And when the bars finally wind down, there’s always one last chapter before sleep: the legendary souvlaki stands at the port—simple, filling, and authentic—or the iconic Burger Epos (a name that lives up to its reputation), open late for that final bite that sends you to bed with a full belly and a happy heart.

Antiparos isn’t just a destination. It’s an experience. And each time we visit, it gently reminds us how much beauty there is in simplicity.
